The problem

Most products don't fail at the idea. They fail at the build.

After eight years of rescuing and rebuilding codebases, the same three problems show up again and again.

Slow development cycles

Two-week features turn into two-month sagas. Releases slip, feedback loops stall, and momentum quietly disappears.

Poor scalability

The build works fine for 200 users and falls apart at 20,000. Queries time out, costs climb, patches pile up.

Unstructured backend systems

Business logic scattered across controllers, no clear boundaries, no tests. Every change risks breaking something else.

The approach

Built to ship this quarter and survive the next three.

No rewrites baked into the roadmap. Every decision is made against a simple test: will this still hold at 10x the load and 3x the team?

Clean architecture

Domain logic separated from frameworks. Clear module boundaries so a new developer ships in week one, not month three.

  • Typed contracts end to end
  • Tested business rules
  • Readable, boring code

Scalable backend

Node.js and NestJS services designed for real traffic — queued jobs, cached reads, and predictable database access.

  • Redis caching & queues
  • Indexed data models
  • Observable by default

High-performance frontend

React interfaces built around real user flows: fast first paint, honest loading states, accessible components.

  • Sub-second interactions
  • Design-system driven
  • Responsive to the pixel
The process

Four steps, no surprises.

Fixed scope per phase, weekly written updates, and a demo you can click every Friday.

  1. 01

    Idea → Planning

    Week 1

A week of scoping: user flows, data model, and a written build plan with dates. You approve it before a line of code exists.

  2. 02

    MVP Development

    Weeks 2–6

Weekly demo builds on a staging URL. Core flows first, polish second, so you can put it in front of users early.

  3. 03

    Scaling & Optimization

    Weeks 7–10

Load testing, query tuning, caching, and cost review — driven by what real usage actually shows, not guesses.

  4. 04

    Deployment & Support

    Ongoing

CI/CD, monitoring, alerting, and handover docs. Optional retainer for ongoing features and on-call coverage.

The stack

A deliberately small toolset.

Six technologies I know deeply, chosen because they're stable, hireable for, and cheap to run.

  • Node.jsRuntime
  • NestJSAPI layer
  • ReactFrontend
  • MongoDBPrimary DB
  • RedisCache & queues
  • AWSInfrastructure
Selected work

Three builds, and what changed.

Freightline

Logistics SaaS
Problem
Dispatch dashboard took 9 seconds to load and locked up during peak hours; drivers were calling in for updates.
Solution
Rebuilt the API in NestJS with Redis-backed read models, moved route calculation to a worker queue, and paginated the React grid.

Ledgerpad

Fintech
Problem
Founders had a Figma prototype and a six-week window to demo a working product to their seed investors.
Solution
Shipped an MVP with bank sync, double-entry ledger, and role-based access. Weekly staging demos throughout.

Studioseat

Marketplace
Problem
Booking logic lived in one 4,000-line file. Every new city launch introduced double-booking bugs.
Solution
Extracted a domain layer with test coverage on availability rules, added MongoDB transactions and idempotent booking.

Clients

What founders say afterwards.

He pushed back on half my feature list in the first call, which annoyed me and then saved us about a month. The MVP was live before our investor meeting.
PNPriya NairCo-founder, Ledgerpad
Our dashboard was the number one complaint in support tickets. Two sprints later it wasn't in the top ten. He explained every change in plain English.
MFMarcus FerrellCTO, Freightline
The handover docs were better than the ones our previous agency wrote over two years. Our in-house team picked it up without a call.
